Ed Sheeran Names His Daughter After A Book Character

Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn just had a daughter, whom they have given a literary name. British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran posted online on Tuesday that his wife had given birth to the couple’s first child, a girl who they had named “Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran”.

Lyra is the name of the protagonist in Phillip Pullmans His Dark Materials. Ed seems to have a special connection with the book. He choose it as his book on the BBC radio program “Desert Island Discs” in 2017 where he described it as the “greatest love story ever told”.

He announced the baby’s name on his website and Instagram, posting a picture of a pair of baby socks on a baby blanket with the words, “Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x”

Lyra in the books is a headstrong, brave, and intelligent, but recalcitrant, giving all the adults who attempt to supervise her a difficult time. Good luck and congratulations to the parents if she lives up to her name!
