Himanshu Goel: Author Interview

Himanshu Goel interview

What is love? Is it a thing to be attained? or a feeling? Is it a journey? Himanshu Goel tries to explain to us the journey of love with the help of his poems. In his book of poetry, he tells us about the journey of love in 52 poems through all its aspects, from the honeymoon to the sacrifices, to the bitter end and forever after. When we came across this book, we at thenotoriousreader knew that we had to know more about the author and his book.

Himanshu Goel is a writer and blogger from Chandigarh, India. His first book Tulsi was published in 2017. His passion for storytelling made him pursue writing. His short stories and poetry have been published in several international literary collections. When not writing, he blogs on Instagram at @lighthouse_foodie.

What inspires you to pick up your pen and write?

I am a storyteller at heart and there’s something inside me that wills me to get up and start writing because I have stories to tell. Every time I think of a new plot or new poem, I have to finish it. The idea for a story or poem can come from anywhere, it could come from a conversation, a place I have visited, a song I listened to, and so on.

Can you please give us some more information about your book?

52 laws of love is a journey of love in 52 poems through all its aspects, from the honeymoon to the sacrifices, to the bitter end and forever after.

It is said that the universe is written in the language of maths, 52 laws of love comes from the idea that if there were laws of love, it would be written in the language of poetry.

Can you please tell us more about the main characters of the book?

It is a poetry collection and I have tried to keep it as universal as possible. I believe that no matter where we are from, there are certain core emotions and values that are felt throughout our world. And, love might be the greatest emotion of all. You can say that anyone who has ever experienced love in any form is the main character of the book.

Why did you choose this particular genre? Will you be trying your hand at any other genre?

I love to try my hand at different genres. 52 laws of love is in the genre of micro-poetry. It is one of the most powerful and memorable forms of literature currently present. I believe that these short poems can leave a lasting impact on an individual and it is one of my favorite genres.

Self-help is a genre that really attracts me. I have written a couple of short stories in the genre but I want to write a self-help novel as well.

When should we expect your next book? What will it be about?

I am currently working on a new project which is in the novel in verse style. It is a narrative poetry which will be the length of a novel. I am really excited to work on the project and hope to publish it by the end of the year.

If not a writer, what would have been the career of your choice?

I am currently working as a marketing professional already. As a graduate from MICA, Ahmedabad I enjoy working in the field of marketing.

Can you tell us about your favorite author/ authors?

I am currently reading the works of Charles Bukowski, Pablo Neruda, and Mary Oliver.

What do you like to do when you are not busy writing?

I love playing sports and football is my choice of sport. I am a foodie as well so I always like to try new food places and dishes in my city.

Are there any words of wisdom that you would like to share with our readers?

If you are spending too much time on social media, I would urge you to limit it and try to spend your valuable time elsewhere, maybe pick up a book.
