Human Trafficking: A Modern Day Slavery

As you read this article, this very moment, men, women, and children are being trafficked and exploited all over the world. Human trafficking is now the modern-day slavery and is a problem in countries all over the world. Sex trafficking, illegal child labor, and illegal immigrant trafficking are all examples of human trafficking.

Human trafficking is a global underground problem, it is not only happening in the third world countries but developed countries as well. Very seldom do victims of trafficking ever escape the vicious crimes. Poverty lies at the heart of human trafficking. In sex trafficking, women and children are merely reduced to the status of a gratifying sexual commodity. It has become an organized billion dollar industry and has at its core, investors, unscrupulous recruiters, and corrupt public officials as principal participants. Generally, economically depressed countries provide the easiest recruitment for traffickers. In such nations, women are often eager to leave the country in search of better employment opportunities. Traffickers exploit this fact and often trick victims into thinking they will be going abroad to work as nannies or models. Children too are taken away from their parents with a hope for a better future but end up in the vicious cycle.

Human trafficking is against the fundamental rights of a person. It reduces the person to a mere commodity. This practice needs to stop. All humans deserve to live a life of freedom and respect. It is wrong to sell and buy humans and this practice needs to stop.
