Nobody’s Child by Kanchana Banerjee is a book that you should definitely check out if suspense is what you are looking for. Kanchana Banerjee lives in Gurgaon with her husband Sandeep and her three boys Rohan, Archie & Casper. In another life she used to write for various publications and companies, now she is a full-time author. When not writing, she enjoys gardening and playing with her dogs. Nobody’s Child is her second book.

What inspires you to pick up your pen and write?

As far as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write and that’s exactly what I have done. I have written and worked for publications and companies for 18 years before becoming a fiction writer. So writing comes naturally to me. It’s like breathing.

Can you please give us some more information about your book?

It’s a dark and chilling thriller about the evil games people play to win at any cost. It’s the story of a young girl from a small town, running away from a shameful past. she comes to Bombay to participate in a music contest and make a life for herself. But she crosses paths with people who have their own devious agenda and will stop at nothing to

Kamini Pratap Singh – socialite turned politician who is hell-bent on making her daughter win the music contest and her own political agenda. Avniel- a failed film reporter who is desperately searching for a great scoop, a story that he can use to resurrect his dead career. Why did you choose to write about this particular topic?

I honestly and sincerely believe the story chooses the author. The story decides if it wants to be written or not. a story is a living, breathing, thinking-feeling organism. writers are just the medium. This story was screaming in my head to be written. The Muse led me and I just followed.

Why did you choose this particular genre? Will you be trying your hand at any other genre?

I insanely love thrillers. Books, movies, tv-series. I gorge on thrillers, crime stories. Some of my friends say that I’m a thriller writer at heart. I think I am. I wish I could write a sci-fi thriller or an espionage/terrorism thriller. I don’t shy away from writing violent scenes and Nobody’s Child has that in plenty but in my stories I will never EVER hurt a child or a dog. I love kids and dogs too much to hurt them, even in my stories. So that’s a no-no.

When should we expect your next book? What will it be about?

Long time to go for that. I’m a slow writer, writing for me isn’t a race. So I take time.

If not a writer, what would have been the career of your choice?

I can’t imagine not being a writer. Writing is my passion but I would love to be a gardener. I love plants and have loads of them at home. I would love to be a gardener, have an organic veggie garden, grow my food. Ya, that would be nice.

Can you tell us about your favorite author/ authors?

I’m going to name only Indian authors here because I think there are some very gifted writers. So Vish Dhamija is an awesome thriller writer. Kiran Manral is a rock star writer. I eagerly await her books. Damyanti Biswas is an author to watch out for, her debut book You Beneath the skin is mindblowing. There are many others.

What do you like to do when you are not busy writing?

Reading, Gardening, playing with my dogs, baking, hanging out with friends.

Are there any words of wisdom that you would like to share with our readers?

There’s a perception, a wrong one if I may add; that Indian authors don’t do thrillers well. When you ask anyone to mention a good thriller, they will always name a book written by an international author. Well, there are some writers who write and have written superb thrillers. Read our book and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
