Young shepherd named Santiago roamed around countryside of Spain with his sheep exploring the world and living his dream of travelling the world. He had a recurring dream about a hidden treasure near the pyramids of Egypt.

On his travels, he met a man who claim to help him find this hidden treasure. In order to pursue his destiny, he traveled through the deserts of Africa and fell in love with beautiful desert woman named Fatima. He also met a mysterious man who took him to a world of magic and spiritual learning.

But would he ever find the treasure? Was Fatima the treasure that he was searching for? Would he be able to fulfill his destiny for which he gave up everything?

The Alchemist is an amazing story about omens, universal language, soul of the world and most importantly to follow your heart and dreams. Although this is not considered a love story, I found several elements of love and compassion which spoke to me very personally. It helps to make us realise that everyone have a purpose, whether we know it or not. Something which need to be remembered every now and then.

I found some of the most inspiring and life changing quotes in the book which makes it worth reading. Some of them are shared below:

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

“The dunes are changed by the wind, but the desert never changes. That’s the way it will be with our love for each other.”

“Love never keeps a man  from pursuing his destiny. If he abandons that pursuit, it’s because it wasn’t true love, the love that speaks the language of the world.”

“No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in history of the world. And normally, the doesn’t know it. “
