Veer has always been the butt of all jokes as the fat kid in the neighborhood. His lack of self-esteem isn’t increasing his chances with the woman of his dreams, Prerna, either. When he joins the military academy, he meets Govind, who is everything Veer could only dream of becoming. While Govind is driven by a desire for vengeance, a paltry heartbreak is all that’s steering Veer. And when Veer finds himself at the lowest echelon of the academy, Govind comes to his rescue.
But all victories demand a price. Will Veer let that guilt haunt him for the rest of his life or will he rise to redeem himself? Will he betray his own dreams to fulfill Govind’s ambition? A marvelous blend of romance and redemption, humor, and irony, this is the story of a man’s epic transformation from ordinary to something incredible.
About the Author
Major Vishal Bahukhandi, a self-confessed ‘accidental fauji’, graduated as a commissioned officer from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, in 2004. He served in the Indian Army for a decade and now oversees cybersecurity operations, safeguarding the assets of one of the largest global financial services firms.
Vishal served in the areas recording highest insurgent activity, such as Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and the Northeastern states, and he attributes his survival through these postings, and through the constant challenges of life, to the ‘ragda’ days of the academy.
The Shadow Runner, his debut novel, is not only a tribute to the academy and the men in uniform but also a kaleidoscope to a world that many aspire to be part of. Through this book, Vishal talks about the transformation that military training brings in the fresh, off the boat boys to make them extraordinary. Besides writing, Vishal pursues his passion for physical fitness. His training in classical music and passion for the art continues to thrive, finding expression in his guitar renditions.
