Understanding Capital Punishment

We all know what punishment means, but most of us might not know about capital punishment. Capital punishment, Death Penalty, or execution is the infliction of death upon a person by judicial process as a punishment for an offence. The method of punishment varies from country to country. Where some countries hang the culprits until death, some shoot or give them a lethal injection.

The practice of capital punishment is as old as the government itself. There are many countries throughout the globe which use capital punishment.  The debate about whether the death penalty should be abolished or not is one of the most long-lasting and impassioned debates going on in civil society. Some subscribe to the “eye for an eye” or “life for life” philosophy, while others believe that sanctioned death is wrong.

Like every other thing, capital punishment is a two-sided coin. On one hand, capital punishment gives people an idea of what the law is capable of doing and the criminal can never escape from the punishment no matter who he/she is. But, on the other hand, the person is not given a second chance to change. Many times, the real criminal escapes the trial, and someone innocent is framed.
